Dr. Michael Thibert is a Clinical Adult Cardiac Electrophysiologist specializing in the diagnosis and management of complex heart rhythm disorders. This includes diagnosis and management of supraventricular arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation/flutter, premature ventricular contractions, and ventricular tachycardia. He has advanced training in complex ablation procedures with specific research and procedural expertise in the management of premature ventricular contractions and ventricular tachycardia. He also has advanced training in complex arrhythmia mapping, ablation of atrial arrhythmias, and the use of intracardiac echocardiography (ICE). Additionally, he performs implantation of cardiac devices including pacemakers, ICDs, cardiac resynchronization therapy, and conduction system pacing.
Dr. Thibert has a clinical research interest in premature ventricular contractions and complex ventricular arrhythmia ablation. He is also passionate about medical education and is currently Co-Director of the Victoria Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship with Dr. van Zyl. He has multiple peer reviewed publications and has presented at national meetings.
Dr. Michael Thibert is originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario where he completed an Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology Degree at Lakehead University (2011) and medical education at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (2015). He then went to Vancouver to complete Internal Medicine (2018) and Cardiology Residency (2021) at University of British Columbia where he served as Chief Internal Medicine Resident and Chief Cardiology Resident. He has completed a two-year Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (2023) where he served as Chief Electrophysiology Fellow and was the Member-in-Training Representative for the Canadian Heart Rhythm Society. He was also the recipient of the prestigious Vered-Beanlands Clinical Research Fellowship. He has an Area of Focused Competence (AFC) in Adult Clinical Electrophysiology certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (2023).
